In the heart of Jackson County lies Greyhound Country, a place renowned for its vibrant communities, excellent schools, and outstanding sports teams. Newport, Arkansas, affectionately dubbed "The Center of the Universe" by John G. Pennington, is where I embarked on my journey toward a career in professional baseball.
Growing up in Newport, I was surrounded by the rich heritage of Greyhound sports. My family often amused me with legendary tales of triumph and perseverance, stories that sparked my passion for sports. The values and lessons I learned during those formative years provided me with a solid foundation, both in life and in sports.

As many of you know, I had the privilege of playing baseball in the St. Louis Cardinals organization for four years. Baseball, in essence, is a game, but it is so much more. It's a pursuit that begins in childhood, with kids as young as four or five taking their first swings, and can extend into one's 30s or even 40s. Some play only for a few years, while others continue through high school, college, and a select few make it to the professional level.
Playing the game is akin to chasing a dream. Throughout the journey, you will encounter numerous obstacles and hear the word "no" more times than you can count. How you respond to these setbacks defines your path. Perseverance is key. It's about proving to those who doubt you that your heart and determination are unwavering. Follow your dream, no matter the challenges.

When you face rejection, ask yourself: Are you willing to work harder? Are you willing to work longer? Are you prepared to outwork your competition? Do you possess the mental toughness to push through adversity? Talent alone isn't enough; it requires exceptional effort and dedication to become an elite player. Perhaps, God has bestowed you with the talent to be exceptional, but it is up to you to harness it and work diligently to achieve greatness.
Newport, Arkansas, provided me with the perfect environment to nurture my aspirations. The support of my community, the lessons from Greyhound sports, and the determined spirit of Jackson County all played crucial roles in shaping my baseball career. As I reflect on my journey, I am grateful for the foundation laid in my hometown and the opportunities that allowed me to pursue my dream of playing professional baseball.

My start was in Newport, Arkansas. My biggest supporters were from here. I was encouraged by many hometown folks along the way that helped me stay motivated to play through adversity. I am forever grateful for all the support from Jackson County and all the folks who helped me along the way.
As I transition to full-time husband, new father, and the business workforce, I am motivated to be the best, all because of the folks who were willing to invest in me. And to my family, I can never thank you enough, but I will pass on the lessons that I’ve
learned from you and from my Greyhound family.
As always, Go Hounds!
