It is a love story that proves sometimes the most unexpected journeys lead you right where you are meant to be.

It was the beginning of a legendary chapter for both the Greyhounds and the Keedy family. Jennifer’s role went far beyond being a coach’s wife. She was the emotional backbone of the team’s extended family. From Thanksgiving meals with players to late-night hospital visits with injured athletes whose families couldn’t be there, Jennifer never hesitated to step in.

The Nicholson Family Farm, with roots planted deep in both Jackson and Woodruff Counties, has been selected as one of three 2025 Farm Families by County Culture magazine.

Chad and Cheryl Odell, is a shining example of agricultural dedication in southeast Jackson County. Headquartered in Amagon, Arkansas, this family-run operation thrives on a strong foundation of generational knowledge, hard work, and a shared passion for farming.

Farming across both Jackson and Independence Counties, the Haigwoods have been a vital part of the Jackson County farming landscape since 1965. Through the years, they have grown more than just crops. They have cultivated a legacy rooted in hard work, family, faith, and community.

But titles aside, my work has always been about people—particularly those whose voices aren’t always heard. Whether it’s helping residents access basic services or ensuring access and opportunity for all is embedded in policy, I believe in doing the kind of work that outlives you.

As many of you know, I had the privilege of playing baseball in the St. Louis Cardinals organization for four years. Baseball, in essence, is a game, but it is so much more.

As we look back at the past, we’re reminded that education is more than a system — it’s a legacy passed from generation to generation. Thanks to the dedication of women like Shoffner and McGough, that legacy continues to shape the future.

The scars may never completely fade, but the resilience, kindness, and determination that emerged in the aftermath of the March tornado are a testament to the human spirit. Time and again, Jackson County rises—stronger, closer, and more hopeful than before.

Cathy Nutt is one of those people. She moved to Newport in January, drawn here not by coincidence, but by the excitement and promise surrounding her son, Logan Nutt, as the Head Men’s Aviator Basketball Coach.

Historical figures were included when naming Newport streets. Garfield Street was named for the United States President James A. Garfield. Jackson Street was named for President Andrew Jackson. Bryan Street for William Jennings Bryan. As a lawyer, Bryan is known for his involvement in the 1925 “Monkey Trial” which indicted a teacher for teaching evolution

I am so thankful for the foundation the people and culture of Jackson County gave me. 

Mrs. Mary Alice’s unwavering support and dedication played a vital role in shaping the success of their family and the community they loved.

The junior class of Newport High School hosted The Great Gatsby Prom on March 15 th, 2025. It was a night of extravagance and timeless roman
